Slim black frames with flat bars and a grid of glass have become one of the most requested looks in renovations. Real steel is beautiful, but it's expensive and poor at keeping heat in. Aluminium heritage systems give you the look with modern performance.
What makes it look like steel
- Very slim sightlines: the AluK Heritage window has a 43mm fixed light.
- Duplex grids and flat bars that divide the glass into small panes.
- Slim and odd-leg profiles, usually in matt black.
- Heritage hardware in finishes like antique bronze and pewter.
Performance you don't get from old steel
AluK Heritage windows reach 1.4 W/m²K double glazed or 1.1 triple glazed, and carry PAS 24 and Secured by Design. Decorio's polyamide thermal break is far better at stopping heat escaping than steel.
Doors to match
AluK Heritage doors have slim 51.7mm sightlines and come as single or French doors. Decorio doors offer fully bespoke bar layouts and a 15mm Part M low threshold option. For wider openings there's a heritage-sash bifold too.
Where it works best
Period and art deco homes, conversions, and new builds with an industrial feel. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with your local planning team first.
